I actually have a fx5 on another tank its my 180 which also has 3 diy filters and a 15x turnover :) WOuld you drill the tank for t he fx 5?

Yes! The nice thing about canister filters is they are closed loops and can stir the bottom of the tank up. You never have to worry about losing power and overflowing your sump. They are most effective when drilled through the bottom of the tank and used to stir up the lower area the sump returns can't get to.
Ideally (in my opinion) have a primary wet/dry sump system that can handle your bio load. Then add a canister type filter and/or closed loop system to create flow along the bottom of the tank. I like to use a flow accelerator to create even more flow down there than the pump alone. The filter is secondary, you can leave the filter out and maximize your flow because your wet/dry is large enough to handle everything. The primary job of the canister filter is to stir up the lower levels of the tank. Secondary job is it will clean and polish your water and it's nice to have a back up for redundancy. If you have some kind of failure in your sump system the canister filter should be able to keep the tank up and running while repairs are made.
