I planned on using a Tee, but wasnt aware of its name.. I just call PVC parts "the thing that looks like this" and make a finger position, or just look for myself...

My filtration will be a network of filter cartridges to pass through, followed by river rocks, sponges, and maybe a few recommended after thoughts. Haven't gone into that stage of design yet.

it matters in the following sense.......

pumps push water very well
pumps do not draw water very well

if you run cartridges then they should be on the pressure/output side ( return) of the pump.

ime you want the biggest least restricted water flow to the pump....then use the output of the pump as needed.

This is a small version of what we are talking about. The pump is in the sump with the hose going up to the tank. But half way up I have a TEE set up with a ball valve slightly opened to divert water back to the sump instead of an undesired amount of currant in the tank, with no stress to the over sized, for my setup, pump motor.

No body can stop you from trying it your way. You may just want to consider that some one else may have trekked on the same path that you are on and learned a thing or two from our mistakes. I hope I did not sound like an ***h0le. I am not trying to be mean.
