ha...hope he does. Every time i see his name in a thread its always followed by mixed comments..good and bad
I was someone who admired Don for what he has done for the hobby.
Unfortunatly , I no longer admire him after a recently dealing with him.
He really suprised me and disappointed me in how he treated me as a potential customer.

soooo.....you wouldnt buy fish from Don? Is that what youre trying to say? because maybe it wasnt quite clear enough for others when you made 3 other posts/comments about it.
seriously man...get over his "people skills". I can imagine he gets some pretty stupid calls/questions etc.
If anyone else tried or even suggested this, it would be considered sick, ignorant, rude and god knows what else. Funny how it suddenly seems "interesting" for some just because it comes from "don conkel" lol

completely agree. if i posted a thread saying i spawn my 18 inch male dovii in a 125 successfully because i hole punch his fins so he cant kill the female i would get ripped a new one. imo its wrong but its his business and his money on the line for these fish to spawn so he can do whatever he wants.
It's interesting in the sense that the largest breeder of CA cichlids in the world (that I'm aware of) is talking about it. Its precisely who is saying it that makes it interesting, and leads to a general discussion of the topic and the behind the scenes practices fish go through before they arrive in our tanks (from all suppliers and breeders, not just conkel). I think lots of topics are interesting I don't necessarily agree with or would do at home.

and i am sure none of mine are hybrids.
he does have a hybrid on his list,but it is listed as such.
now as far as the hole punching thing,hell no i wouldnt do it,but who really knows how many breeders do it,so we just hate on the one thats not afraid to say it.
we just really dont know how common the practice was or still is.
no matter what we think personally of the man he has done more for the hobby than any of us on mfk.
and from talking to other breeders in the florida fish farm association whem i was at the aca,he single handly save a few farms from going under after the cold snap.
