Purigen question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it isn't going to absorb n03, its like super carbon, it does help a lot with polishing as said above^^

If you want lower nitrates with less cash look into my link below!

Thats what I figured. Seachems info would lead you to believe otherwise. My nitrates are fine where they are. Thanks though

"Purigen® controls ammonia, nitrites and nitrates by removing nitrogenous organic waste that would otherwise release these harmful compounds."

Just read carefully. The advertisement states it sucks up poop. So the advertisement is correct.
However, it will not doing anything to the chemical nitrate after it's been formed.
It prevents formation of nitrates.
So advertising that it "controls" nitrates is totally true.
It just doesn't process nitrates after it's been formed.

I would not buy an expensive poop sucker. There's other poop suckers like uh, foam. And uh, gravel vac.
Fancy pants product.

My sentiments exactly...until I actually tried the product and was blown away at how well it absorbed tannins and made my water absolutely crystal clear.

Seems cool but I've heard it takes out minerals as well that may be beneficial to fish! Either way I use A LOT of tannins so this would never benefit me, how ever maybe I can add it to my DIY carbon wc filter to reduce and eliminate chlorine, amm of the incoming fresh tap water, I just hate dosing a chemical to get rid of chemicals!

^^^ I would assume it'd be hard to see a difference in your tank since it looks so clean already.

I just put 250 ML of Purigen in my XP4 filter on my 125 gallon. Took a couple of pics now and will update tomorrow to see if there is any improvement.

Careful I heard that purigen compacts tightly and isn't ideal for canisters, but I guess with 1 xp4 and a fx5 it wouldn't hurt to lose apprx 25-50gph!
