Yea that's why I put in the XP4. I use it more for mech with very little bio. All the bio is in the fx5 so I'm cool with slower flow for cleaner water lol

Dang, so I never hear of the stuff before, who would sell it and what do I need to get it going, also can you switch it between tanks, or should you have a bag for each tank?
You can get a bottle on Amazon for like 20 bucks. The bottle treats 1000 gallons so it will last you along time. You have the buy "the bag", which is actually the name of the bag you use to hold it and put it in each tank.

Just used it today and i am really amazed how my 150 went from a constant 20 - 30 nitrates to 5 overnight. It looks like it also took out my Amazon Rain stuff out of the water though. My question is can i use it once a month to lower nitrates and clean the water, take out and add water soft stuff and amazon rain and every month run tank with purigen for a few days.
You do not have to buy "the bag." You just need a small micron media bag.

I use to run 1L of purigen in a reactor for my 450 gallon setup. I don't think it removes nitrates alone but I think it does help reduce it as purigen absorbs all the toxins ammonia in the tank from uneaten foods, over feeding etc, fish poop etc. With out using it my tank would reach 80-100ppm nitrates by end of week water change maintenance and after adding the purigen it would reach 40ppm nitrates. I do agree it works as a great water polisher too. Use a reactor with it to get maximum potential out of each purigen bead.
