I see alot of posts got deleted from this thread, makesit weird cause some are still quoted.

It is weird anyhow..... :)

Really I always find it interesting how so few people really understand other countries and their business...Americans are really bad at this in particular. Everything must be their way or it's "just not right".. Who says it is right for the country in question though? Is western "democracy" really in the best interest of Russia or the Russian people.? I really do not think so....Putin's policies are right for Russia and as such He is Right for Russia...

Dad still thinks Russia has outdated weaponry..Life goes on.

I have no idea what australia is like on the "aussie way". Gotta start listening i guess.

Putin has great history, he's done alot in his life. Is there one of those books about him?
By the way, i totally agree with what you said... "Democracy is overrated". Good ole Mcarthy eh?

its just a simple photo op for him. Russia has to save face for what is going on in Georgia and need to make Putin look strong, manly and a mans man. Its an old style propaganda type story--like the kind they would print during the world wars..

I don't think Russia feels obligated to defend themselves in ... anything really... (kind of like us, and thats the reason we don't always get along) Putin is no longer president, Dmitri Medvedev is

Russia deals with a lot more internal paranoia and turmoil amoung it's society because of past actions than we have in the past, though our country is starting to head down the same route due to our governments actions of late.

To other countries, we are what Russia is to us in the terms of cold war thinking...people don't like us - because our system is flawed and very few people acknowledge it.

Paranoia is justified. Not to say that we don't have tons of cover-ups but usaually if your an american citizen you don't just disappear (now that does not include everyone we make disappear that are non-citizens, cause we do that) You can't speak out against government in Russia. Correction you can but you might want to settle your estate and say anything you been meaning to say to those you love before hand. Russia is not the worst offender when it comes to glamorizing there leaders and completely literally erasing thier mistakes, but they sure do it well.

Well, as Americans growing up in this time we hold a personal sort of grudge against any form of communism. It was drilled into our grandparents, our parents, and by association it's rubbed off onto us.

America just has a different way of "tricking" the public, in that for some reason our society is for the most part completely uninterested in being politically aware. We sort of just hand our fates over to some one with absolute trust, there aren't a whole lot of people that get that involved in things anymore.

It's not so in other countries, and it's hard to understand how an entire nation can just sit back while it's top leaders commit perceived injustices world wide. They think everyone is completely ignorant to the truth around them, but it's more an issue of everyone ignoring it - because life is so good over here.

Just my two cents - in the eyes of other countries we aren't much better than how our country treats Russia. We just happen to have more money, and therefor we get away with a lot more.

I completely agree. It's an overwhelmingly depressing thought, but lambs can best describe us today. It's hard to tell whats more infuriating those that ignore the problem or those that are completly ignorant (but have the information available) and are just not interested.

I have to include myself as being part of the problem because of my own inactions.

Bet that hunter Cheney shot, wished Cheney had tranquilizer instead of a rifle. Guess thats cause red necks are not an endanger species
