id take the middle part with the valve off and replace with a plain piece of pvc. drill a hole and insert a small check valve like the one pictured in the other thread.

:iagree:

Raise the intake and use an airline check valve.

Which tank is this for and how big is your sump? I had my intake 2.5-3" below the surface on my 150.. And it drained all the way to there and i still had 5 icnhes to go on my sump before flood fear :)

Milkman, you have good advice here. ;) The air line check valve will allow you to suck the air out of the top loop. The doo-dad that you have on there now will not allow you to do that. At least no one should be in the room when you do...especially with a camera.

Second, you want to make the overflow as compact as possible. Otherwise it will be a huge monstrosity in your tank. Check the plumbing isle for drain fittings that are U shaped. They come in 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 inches. I will try to post a pic of what I am talking about.

Also, you want your bottom loop inside the tank near the bottom of the tank. This is important because it will dictate how low the tee on the outside can be. The lower the tee is in relation to the waters surface will dictate how much water volume it will flow. The lower it is, the more water flow.

Lucky we bought an extra pvc pipe, and dident glue it on yet lmao.. I'll go to the lfs later and get the valve than make some adjustments thanks guys

Here is a pic of the U fittings I was talking about. The other shows how compact the finished product can be.

So i should rebuild it? or just take out that middle t peice and put the valve.

Here is an overflow on a tank to give you an idea of what it should look like in operation.
The other is an alternate design that will look a little cleaner installed. (It is a good design for small tanks.)

You can still have the intake as low as he wants but all he needs to do is drill a small break whole about 2 - 3 inches below the water line.

So if i just changed the valve part would it still work though? cuz it looks exactly like that to me.
