I did however read where a few species of rhoms have been breed in home aquariums. Need to find the site and see which ones.
rhom is short for Serrasalmus rhombeus which is just one specie, or we can call it Serrasalmus rhombeus complex as it has many variants depends on location.
The one serrasalmus that has been breed in home aquarium is Serrasalmus Maculatus, aka gold piranha, gold spilo.

My info thread! Tis dead! Like it took a shotgun to the head! Ok well here's some decent news. I guess I'm going to strip my 130 down completely. Clean it up nice and reseal the thing. Even tho its so scuffed I just wanna puke. Maybe there is a product I can buff on with a drill and remove some of that. I guess that's going to be my pirahna tank. And like ballin admited. I am also a cheap ass, therefore I'm going to order a new baby reds I guess. Would rather have super reds but I don't guess it matters. Just think wild caught sounds cooler but **** it. 130 gallon I'm assuming can hold ???? 7 to 10 adults? I thought about building another 400 or so tank with income tax but who knows. And if I did I hate to admit it but it wouldn't be for pirahna. That baby would be for a predator community tank of mixed species. Payara being one of them if I think I can handle the stress of a 200$ fish just up and dying for no damn reason :/. Ne ways. I need filtration for the 130 and I need it cheap and effective. Maybe a sump? But if the sump has to be half the size of the tank which would be a 55 gallon. Well I don't see me turning a 55 gallon into a sump when it could be a running tank! Might have to try out the stackable drawer thing and a rubbermaid tote. So suggestions welcome on filtering. Also need some fish. So bruner! Get me some fry!! :) also. Need some tank resealing, removal of glass scuffs help... thanks. Verruckt

Lemme rephrase that. Not a 55 gallon sump more like a 65 gallon...ahh the complexity of simple math and spelling...

jp can probably lend you a hand with sump design and what not. he's pretty handy like that.

i'd ignore the whole concept of "super red" piranhas. they'd throw the title on any piranhas they got ahold of that looked the part. they're all going to fade when they get bigger anyways. now wild reds, definetely look better and have a whole different personality then tank bred but deep down, do you really really care about that? any visitor ain't going to be able to physically tell the difference.

Sounds like you've got a fun project to get started on. keep us updated as you go along.

Yeah I know what u mean. The only reason I was thinking super reds was because of this one dude from swedens fish. Ill find the link and post it. His fish r extrodinary looking imo

oh, good ol matte g. his are shaped differently then all of mine except maybe my smallest but the colors i'm sure has to do more with the color scheme and diet.

mine are extremely dark, still good red but very very dark fish. i have black sub and black background. i have a buddy who has no background and i think blue sub, his fish are silver and the red pops out more. This convinces me their colors have alot do with set ups.

if its what makes you happy go for it, if not any rbps will work or wait til next summer you can get some cariba.
as for sump, not necessary to be half the size of your tank, as long as it can hold enough water without overflowing when there's a blackout or in the event of pump failure. feel free to pm me if you have questions.
