2-If I don't fill my tank with water from the tap, let's say I fill a large Rubbermaid with R/O water and Prime it, is there a way to get the Python to suck up from the Rubbermaid into the tank without a faucet?

Thanks!

Anyone reason your doing this specifically for? If it's because you don't think the Prime putting in before will be fine for the fish, then I'd suggest trying it. TONS of people put Prime in before or while their filling, no need to mix water or wait for Prime to work.

You can use the flow from the faucet to start a siphon, then rely on the siphon alone to continue.

I have no idea how this is possible. If I turn the faucet on, start the siphon and then turn the faucet off, I barely have a trickle and hardly any suction. Perhaps its due to 50' of hose.

Mine would do this at my parents. I now have a shorter hose. Also make sure everything is tightly closed. Anywhere where it's not air can come in/out and make the syphon useless.

No, it's because my tap water is super hard, I need to run it through R/O unit first, I know adding Prime right before/after is basically the same...

That would do it as well, the only way to compensate is to increase the height of the stand... which isnt practical.

i'm not a huge fan of the python either...with the cheap plastic adapter switch to drain and fill. i have broken it at least twice and costs like 16 bucks to replace it only to have it break again. and i find wastes alot of water to drain, and if you shut off the tap, the siphon becomes very weak. but its good for filling...no water waste involved.

needless to say i'd like to do a diy replacement....been searching the net for ideas...no luck yet.

Does the same for me with a 25" hose too. Also when I turn the water off I can't get good enough suction to pull any of the waste I'm trying to remove off the gravel.

Yeah, if I shut off my faucet, it would take me about far longer.

The nice thing about the python, is its suppose to restrict flow from the faucet so you don't use as much water.

If you don't keep the sink running, a 5/8" garden hose will drain faster and costs considerably less. It looks like the sink attachment on the python is very small diameter, which means the siphon rate is not very high.
