That only works if the siphon is draining below from where the tank is sitting.

Fair enough. Forgot about the lower tanks. :)

I use my python to vac the tank and then my FX5 to drain the rest of the 50%, then use the python again to refill.. Oh yea and always add Prime too..

Since I'll be housing a ray, I'm worried about putting prim in the tank first and then adding the water or adding the water first and then the prim.

python's are mega overpriced. You can get a larger diameter hose plus a sink attachment for half as much money.

got mine for 25 bucks I really didn't need to shop around or mix and match. Sure it could be done cheaper but the python is a great product.

2 of my tanks are too far away from a sink to use a 25' hose. A 50 foot python is around $50, 1/2" ID hose. A 5/8" 50 foot water hose was $20, plus it drains the tank faster.

I get what your saying its a good point. And im not arguing it cant be done cheaper. Some people just like the security of a proven product with everything ready to go out of the box . What kind of attachment are you using on the sink ?

from what I have seen the Aqueon version is a better product.

the reason that I went with the el cheapo python is that I do not believe extensions were available for the Aqueon unit (only 25 foot models)

I didn't want to have to fart around with modifying if I needed to add more hose.

turns out, I only needed a 25 foot model anyway..but still..the Aqueon seems to be built with better components.
