some of my snakes likeed to soak every now and then without those problems, when my hog island boa had mites he constantly tried to get out,i didnt see them in time and he rubbed his nose raw on the screen.i was talked into useing oil on a green tree python and then hear thats bad because greens absorb through their skin, that might be bull crap but im not sure.i didnt work anyways.they do like to soak before shedding sometimes.even if humidity is right.good luck, sounds like it may have been a diferent bug.just keep an eye on it,when they get it usualy you see lots of them.mites suck!!!!
Thanks! He is gettign ready to shed as he has darkened up and has milky eyes and i put him in his bath to have a drink.

That could be, and if that's the case, I think you'd do well to put the snake in another cage where it doesn't have that kind of access to the heat lamp or any kind of a metal cage. It might be a good idea even if that isn't what caused the wound. I know I wouldn't want any of my snakes getting that close to the heat lamp.

I haven't really got anything at the moment. The wound isn't bleeding it looks like it did but i'll sort somthing out.

Sounds like a burn, snakes really shouldn't have access to anything hot as they don't have the sense to keep away from it. If you can't find any more mites, the chances are it wasn't a mite, what you are describing sounds too big anyway. I would get something to cover the bulb, like a mesh cage to screw into the viv. Better still just take it out and achieve the temps with a UTH, none of my snakes have bulbs anymore ceramic heaters and UTH's are easier for me. Either way it isn't a big deal, the wound may be why he is going into shed, they are resilient creatures.

I haven't been very clear there is a mesh cage around the bulb.
