Is the Tan 3M colorquartz S grade good with Pups?

My aunt in Seattle Wash just text me and told me she got a pup (dont know which kind but she said its small... 4-5" or so)

So I told her to get rid of the rocks she has and use sand... out of all the colors, she likes the Tan color

I read somewhere that the 3M ingrediants are not safe for Rays... true or false?

If so, whats the best sand for Rays?

Thanks

i have 3M s grade white sand in my tank and it doesnt bother my ray. she loves to bury under the sand. just wash it out really good before you use it.

I currently use the same exact in my rayless-tank:cry:, so preparing it is checked off:D. I told her how to rinse it and all that good stuff.

There was a thread (I believe it was from "Spotfin" but dont want to quote that as his) that had some baby hystrix that died and seemed to be from 3m colorquartz (just cant find it)... thats why i am posting, worried I might give wrong or false information:D

This is my thread that keepinfish posted above. That is why I don't use the 3M sand, and recommend Estes. It was never determined if the 3M sand was the cause of death of my rays, but I removed the sand anyway.
What worried me most was the sand grains I found in the intestine didn't have much of the color left (4th picture down in the above thread). The digestive juices broke down the coating of the grains.

I had the brown 3M sand.

Sand in ray tanks seems to be quite the controversial thing. When I was looking at sand for my tank, I read not to use play sand or plain silica sand, so I opted for 3M because I read many positive things about it. Now I read this.

I know there's a lot of others using 3M sand. I wonder how long they've had rays with it?

This could be a good poll, what sand do you use, and how long have you kept rays with it.

Ive been using 3m color quartz in my tank with my ray for a year now. i know people who have it in with theirs for much longer.

Ive done a ton of research on it and i would continue using it...........

the only thing that bugs me about it, is that it contains Chromium oxide. Chromium oxide (Cr2O3) is insoluble in water but not acid. when exposed to acid lets say inside of the stomach; chromium oxide then turns into hydrated chromium ions [Cr(H2O)6]3+. which basically means heavy metals. the amount and effect of said metals is unknown to me.. that's what bugs me.

however, this brings me piece of mind.

''3M created Colorquartz Crystals by melding the strength of nature with the power of technology. Quartz, one of nature’s hardest minerals, is bonded with an exterior ceramic coating. This coating – which contains inorganic pigments – gives each Colorquartz Crystal its brilliant color and durability.

The color resists bleeding or fading, even when exposed to harsh sunlight, strong pool chemicals, and acid washings. The durable crystals, dispersed throughout your pool finish, withstand chemical wear and mechanical abrasion.''

Very nice Rays and Sand:naughty:

I am thinking of mixing the tan with black (2bags of tan and 1/2-1bag of black)

I wish I had a freaking ray:cry:... these Q's are for my aunt who just got one and at the same time for me since I have 3m in my tank for well over a year (id say pretty close to 2 years now)

What was so bad about the Tan? Bright? Gets dirty quick? Color for tankmates?
