Liz - thats so funny! Will he eventually outgrow his cave thou? And will you replace it or will there not be enough room at that point, making him free swimming?
i would feel bad if he did not have the security of a house...or two.. so i quess if i cannot locate bigger caves..{i think these are the biggest made} i will be in DIY asking for advice on what to use... :D:D

my clown knife eats massivore pellets.... frozen Hikari silversides....{it has to be Hikari because they are the only ones that make up the large silversides..} cooked shrimp {the kind we buy} jumbo ... break it in half and tails removed... or smaller ones if yours is a little guy... when younger and smaller frican cichlid pellets... sometimes even algae pellets.. when the big common pleco was in with him.:D the Black ghost knife loves smaller silversides and large Hikari african pellets...

Well my clown knife is about 5-6''. He hides when the lights are on, but when the lights are off he is out there crusing for food. He eats like a pig. Man I sure love my clown knife. He eats shrimp, worms, cichlid gold. So I suggest keeping the lights off for some time to see your clown.

So he wont come out for feedings when the lights are on?

they are nocturnal ...so you get all the action when lights are off...:naughty:

Mine just stopped hiding and he/she is currently around the 10 inch mark. I have noticed more free swimming in the day as well. In the past if I wanted to see the darn fish i would have to sit in the dark with my lights dimmed down at the lowest level.
