Mag 7 rocked my neck of the woods, lost a few gallons slopping over in the house and classroom gfci tripped but no breakage or casualties. Anchorage has major damage but so far no reported loss of life praise God

Sounds like my brother in the Dimond area just lost his TV and some things knocked off shelves. Out in Eagle River my dad has some broken tiles and cracked drywall plus some flooding from a broken pipe to the water heater.
7.0 a good shaker, being a cali boy been in some big ones, loma priata, 6.9 , one in southern calui 7.3 , lots of 4.0 to 5.0. in most cases they where just interesting events.
glad seems to be no injuries involved.
its funny I have talked to people that lived in the Midwest and said they would rather live in tornado ally than the west coast do to the earthquake threat. I would take a quake over a tornado any day.

Some pretty crazy footage during the initial big one, with hundreds of aftershocks (plus 60 mph winds and big snow recently in some places) -- hopefully Mother Nature will calm down there!

I haven't heard of any loss of life yet either on any of the news outlets so that's a good thing.
It's always weird to me for some reason to think of earthquakes in Alaska. I know it does sit on a fault line but for some reason it's just hard to put the two together.

All of my tanks survived as well. I came home expecting to find at least a tank knocked off a stand and broken in a pool of water. I had other things damaged in the house, but the tanks just splashed a lot of water on the floor.
Definitely weird given that the largest recorded earthquake in north america was in Alaska, and one of the largest recorded EVER...
I remember hearing about that one from back in the 60's on a documentary I watched a few years ago. If I remember correct it lasted 3-4 minutes or something crazy like that. I couldn't even imagine being in one that lasted that long that would be unreal.
I saw that on the news a few days ago, good to know nothing bad happened to ya.

You can build a house underground and the tornado won’t hurt you but no matter what you do an earthquake can get to you. Even if you build one of those special buildings that are designed to be able to move I doubt that everything will stay perfect.
