I am running two AC70's on my 55, and the water is crystal clear. I am curious what people use in the filter when they say that they dont need to replace anything? I rinse out the sponge whenever it is needed, and I do not replace the biomax, but what about the carbon? Is it not needed? or can it be rinsed?
You don't really need it unless you are removing medication from the tank.
Ditch the carbon and add another biomax. That or you could ditch the carbon and add some filter floss, I find that gives me crystal clear water.

My AC110 is fairly noisy. I also have an AC50 though, which is silent. They are nice filters; well designed (no cartridges to deal with) and seem to last a long time. The AC50 is around 5 years old.
Werd my ac110 makes a little noise. My AC50 is completely silent like an Eheim.

My AC50 is two foams and the bio.

My AC110 is manufacturer reccomended setup. I like running some carbon at all times (flame suit on)

I hate my AC filter! Louder than my emperor 400 (and it is a AC 20!) and the sponge has a small surface area, like where the water flows through, this makes it more necessary to clean it more often.

I much prefer emperor 400's and Cascade HOB's. Much quieter and more reliable IMHO

Hagen AquaClear power filters and powerheads have provided me many years of continous service without a flinch for my numerous tanks. They make a great product, you won't be disappointed.
