yeah, just like the mollies you want to breed that you would buy at the store
LOL,nice comeback ,so we are back to my practice of dosing my feeder tank with the different meds that I use, these diferent fish dont seem to grow fast enough for the size that my fish are.I really like the comet idea if I had the space for it.

i have a 60 gallon that i keep/breed guppies, platties and mollies in... i keep a big thicket of plants in the tank for the fry to hid in..
-weekly water changes
-built in overflow/filter with a 250gph pump
-2x a day feedings
-i feed the tank mashed veggies, massivor, market shrimp, frozen blood worms, algae wafers and prettymuch whatever i feed to the rest of my fish

-i medicate as needed whenever i restock the guppies (once every other month or so)
-i use to keep a cray in the tank to clean up the dead/weak/slow fish but i decided he would make a nice snack for some other fish :)

i keep my feeders in a 5.5g with a 60 gallon filter. i keep 4 dozen feeders in there at a time.

This thread has helped me as well. I was wondering the same about the feeders. I have a clown knife that has an endless appetite. Wanting to start a breeder tank so I'm not going to the LFS every other day to get more fish and hope that they are all going to be safe for my clown knife!

This is something that I have been contemplating, how is the growthrate of the young mollies?
actually having done so from start to finish it takes a while. 3 months from start to a fingernail sized fish usually more time. its a pita but the offspring are "Pure" I almost never feed pet store feeders because of the risk I have done so once over the past year to get my endli in shape a little bit. It worked :D

a krichardson is that your emperor in your avatar? sorry off subject...about to pick one up friday
Yeah thats my big boss, had him since two inches for at least eight years now and the beauty of it is that he was raised on different types of pellets and has rarely eaten another fish .... but he doesnt take kindly to newcomers LOL.

The best treatment for feeder fish (other than gamma irradiating them (which kills the fish and any parasites (http://www.reviss.com/resource/lvl3.asp?lvl3_id=26 ))) is a salt bath. Recommended doses for aquarium fish are ½ to ¾ ounce of salt to 20 gallons of water to even a 1/2 cup salt to 1 gallon of water (for a quick couple of minutes bath). More info at:

guppies, mollies, platies.. extra small tanks get a filter and filled with live bearers. I find them interesting to watch, and my larger fish make for nice control of the tank populations and for culling purpooses. supplimented by rosy minnows that i QT 2 weeks and treat as needed. have an extra 20L atm that will likely end up another guppy or molly tank. I also don't take chances.. if I'm running low on feeders. I feed straight pellets for a few days and hoarde teh feeders for my needle nose ( the only fish i have who eats stricktly live food) that imo is the nice thing about haveing fish eat both.

I'm going to start breeding convicts....need to get another set up for that though. Any suggestions on the size?
