I would think that if any were alive they would be turned over to fish a game. I would doubt that many would have survived the trip especially if the luggage had been lost for a considerable amount of time.

I have yet to see any info that would lead me to believe that confiscated fish are destroyed.
 
I agree, I doubt a fish that is confiscated for being smuggled to bypass a conservation law would be destroyed. Gotta wonder where they end up, though...

Public aquariums I would guess. I know the local aquarium here in Colorado had 8-9 of them the last time I was there.
 
The Coney Island used to have a large Redtail Gold. The tank is was in was only twice its size though, and it had gill curl. I think it died. They have a small Lei now.
