So you are saying all the professionals here shouldnt give advice? There is also the moral aspect. I would feel pretty bad if I gave out sound advice but to someone who didnt provide me all the details or misinterpreted what I said and they ended up killing themselves....

Makes me think twice before I post.

If you build an aquarium with just advice from a Forum maybe you deserve the out come no matter how tragic. As George Carlin said you gotta weed out the dumb ones...:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

IMO thats a pretty true statement, i am only 22, but i have been tinkering with anything and everything since i was a kid not more then 8 years old. i have gotten hurt countless times, fallen broken bones, hot burnt electrocuted(more often then not) and thats all due to experimentation, i have made tanks and fixed tanks in strange ways and it has worked, some have not but thats experience, First i read a lot read what others have done and not done ask opinions and ultimately its my choice who's opinion i take and how i go about to do something. i don't build tanks for a living, i don't breed fish either, but i have done both successfully for a number or years. and i would not EVER recommend doing something that i either have done or will do my self... The only reason i come to this site is because there are a lot of experienced and intelligent people, this is the biggest gathering of people that know what they are doing.

COMMON sense is learned not taught, and this is the deciding factor between success and failure...

thats why my sig says "Life dosn't have a reset button, if it did you may as well turn the game off"

if you walk into home deopt and ask some one how to build a house and he tells you, you build the house and it crashes down... you cant sue the man because its just ADVICE, its the mans fault for not contracting pros to do the job... but if a profetional did the job and a contract was singed then he is held liable. all advice given out on this site should be given and taken with a grain of salt... And thats why its a fourm, for discutions if i dont agree with you i say i dont and vice versa...

Ultimetly i dont think that anyone over the internet can be held liabe for giveing out and opinion, because its the end user that decides whether to use the advice or not.
Yeah, I think it's called heresay.

Yes, there are many opinions given in the forum, but there are many in here that give sound advice that can be backed up by facts as well. In the case of how much weight a floor can handle, the response that I see given by most people is to either have a contractor look at the subflooring to see if it will be ok, or some others say you don't need to worry if the tank is a 55G-75G or smaller, but any larger, they recommend having the subflooring checked. I have never heard of a 75G going through the floor on any floor, but I've heard a few horror stories of 300G tanks. And I usually say that if it's going to be larger than 55G, have the floors looked at if you are not comfortable, or don't know how to check them out yourself.

But overall, I highly doubt anyone can get in trouble by giving advice, because it's the responsibility of the other person to get the facts. And I've been given much advice on here, and it's all been sound advice, backed up by facts. And you can usually weed out the bad advice, as it's usually quite noticable.

or just don't be a putz. members are being kind enough to try and help, but if you take other peoples advice for 100% fact without doing any research maybe you should have a hobby that involves keeping other living things alive (or breeding)

Wow...... forward thinking at it's best. Do you think 30 years ago this threads question would have been posed? Back then, people understood that knowledge was power and it shouldn't be abused. Nowadays, every tom, dick, and harry thinks their 2 cents is fact and every dick, harry, and tom can't manage to take responsibility for their own stupid actions.
