I have a 110g tank with an overflow and just bought a 30 gallon tank because the stand is only 14" wide. My question is how should i build it and what kind of media. Ive been looking through the website but if i wanted baffles for lets just say a submerged media sump how tall and how far apart do you put the baffles any help would be helpful thank you.

Just don't use any baffles. Put pond matrix in laundry bags. Put a filter sock around the drain outlet in the sump. You're gonna have a hard time with baffles on a 30 gallon tank.

Why do you want baffles? Don't need em on a freshwater tank.

I was just saying that as an example. But u dont think I need them?

Nope. Don't need any baffles. I don't have any in my sump. Sumps are great for 3 reasons--versatile, ease of maintenance, large capacity for large tanks.

I take advantage of the 2nd and 3rd. I haven't cleaned my sump in 2 years. I just swap out filter socks. No place in my sump for debris to collect other than filter socks, so it's always pristine.

You need more bio-filtration, add another bag of Pond Matrix.

That's it. I love my sump.

The youtube video above, when you go watch that, there's a link to my "youtube channel". If you click on that link, you can see all the videos I've posted. One of those videos is a video showing my plumbing for my tank and my sump--how it's set up, the drains, the auto water changer, the overflows, it's all in that video. Better than a single picture.

And there's the link to my build thread in my sig, and Jaws posted it, too. And if you type "300 sa/ce" in the search bar here on MFK, it'll return 2 threads for JC1119's 300 gallon tank. One of those threads is HIS build thread, which is way better than mine, more detailed, LOTS of pics and explanation of what he did to build his, why he did what he did, etc.

JC's thread is what I followed to build my tank--that's the playbook.

Could I still have a drip system if the water level is high?
