After losing my 2 sens and bowfin i put my Delhezi and Guinean in a cooler while i drain my tank. I had other threads on this issue and i never found out what killed my fish so im going to drain my tank down to the sand. I wanted to know if i will have to wait to put my 2 bichirs in my tank after i drain it and refill it with new water? This may be a dumb question but ive never had something like this happen where i lose this many of my fish so any advice is good.

best is to recycle the tank again. I know it is a long time but its better than dead bichirs don't you agree?

Since you already brought the fishes, put in the tank and test daily for the 3Ns, also keep dosing Stability that will help

I would just throw them in. You already have established filters yes? If so, then wait till the temps are right, then add the fish. Its basically doing a 100% water change.

Yes i have established filters. Its a 75 with a emperor 400. If i just do new water and some Prime will that be ok? Not sure how long they can sit in a cooler with a filter and heater. The cooler probably is about the size of a 10 gal and both the bichirs are 8'' and 12'' so i dont want to keep them cramped in there for more then a few days.

I don't know to be honest. I have never use prime before.

Ok thanks for the advice anyway. Maybe somebody will know what to do and post.

Have you not done a large water change before?

50% is the biggest. I just wanted to completely clear out my tank because something was killing my fish and i wasn't sure if it was something in the water.

Just read your other thread. If your tank been set up for a year or so, I might be the water from your tap. Have you tested the water from your tap? Any new tank mates were added when your fish died, and no decore, filters anything?

(Should have asked in your other thread)

I did add 2 pieces of decor that i got from my lfs and i thought that may have been the problem. no new tank mates in months, and ive had the same filter on there since it was set up. It was really confusing. Ill take a test of my tap water anything i should look for? i have 3 other tanks set up and haven't lost a fish in any of those yet and they use the same tap water for wc's.
