I did add 2 pieces of decor that i got from my lfs and i thought that may have been the problem. i have 3 other tanks set up and haven't lost a fish in any of those yet and they use the same tap water for wc's.
What was the decor? If you 3 tanks up and running, then we all know It's not the water. That narrows it down to just that tank.

Doing a 100% will dilute the problem that killed your fish (if that's the case). Fill the tank, wait a day or so, test water after the day is up, If all checks out good, put the fish back in. IMO. As for prime, add the recommended doses for your tank.

You can put your bichirs back into the tank with 100% new water without any problems as long as the water is the same temperature as the water they're currently in, and that you use the established filters (which, I hope, you've taken measures to ensure that the BB don't die off).

If it's some kind of pathogen you suspect, you'd have to empty the entire tank, wipe it down with diluted bleach, and do the same for all the filters and filter parts (excluding, of course, the biomedia). Chances are simply changing out all the water won't do anything to it.

I figured it was the 2 pieces of decor. It was a cave and a gargoyle. They were sold a a chain pet store so i would think they would be safe. But thats the only thing i can think of.

Im going to do a 100% wc, wait a day get it tested and see. If that doesn't work it looks like i will have to go as far as doing that. Any idea on how long 2 bichirs can stay in a cooler with filter, airstone, and heater? The coolers about the size of a 10 gallon.

Also im going to stop feeding them the raw chopped shrimp, although it may not have been the cause of death, that was the only tank that i fed that too and now there dead.

Would it be possible to move their biomedia into the cooler with them? That way, they would last a while.

I have a filter for a 20 gal on there cause i thought the current of a emperor 400 would bother them in the small cooler. I put the emperor on another tank. I could move it around but would it help?

Is that 20g filter established? Because if it's brand new, it's no good.

You can just take the biomedia and drop it in the water, near the aerator (to get some flow over it). As long as this isn't a long-term arrangement, it'll work.

Yeah it was on my 10 gal. It shouldn't be long. i drained and refilled my 75 and took out everything but the sand. And im not going to feed them the raw shrimp that i had been using so if it doesn't work i will be surprised. Thanks for your help.:)

Hope all works out for you man. Keep us posted.
