Question About Neighbors

i can understand a bush or shrub but trees i have a little of a more bitter opinion, In the back corner of my back yard there is a 30+year old birch tree, which is so large it has about a 50foot radius and its about the same tall, just a super healthy tree. Our miserable neighbours behind us moaned and complained that they had to clean the leaves off their lawn. All four of our neighbours clean its leaves but no one has complained for 20 years. Now they got their way and cut the majority of their half of the tree off, we had to cut a branch about 20feet up in the tree that was about 2 feet across (which may damage the tree permanently). It makes me extremely bitter that people would rather cut off a majority of the branches then respect the tree and leave it how it is. its more convenient to remove the old branches then spend an hour raking them....

I personally wouldnt care much if flowers and leaves fell on the lawn...i mean in my opinion people are WAY WAY to picky about their lawns, i understand one wants their property to look nice, but whats so bad about a few dandelions or some flowers fallin on the grass...its grass lol, besides when the deteriorate they will be fertilizer, why not let it go. thats just my opinion.
That being said, if you are truely that concerned about it i would say talk to him about it casually and see where it goes.

Just mulch the fallen debris with your mower or get a leaf blower and blow it back to his yard. I'd be happy if my neighbor took care of their side even if it added a little work for me, my neighbors are great at gardening but horrible at landscaping so their yard looks like a goat ranch. Likely for me, we have a common wall on a townhome, they like my landscaping skills and have given me free reign to do whatever i want in front of our homes so things look good from the street.

In the old days, men were men and you just cut it down, you didn't ask. Why are people today so wambypamby. Everyone's afraid what to say, what to do, it's not socially acceptable to think for yourself or take an action without everyone's permission on youtube first. Just do it, you don't need to confront your neighbor, maybe if you happen to see him, hey bob I AM cutting down some of your tree that is in my yard. If he has a problem with it tell him to #%# himself lol

Not much you can do beside sweep up the leaves and trim off the branches that are on your side. You don't need to ask for permission, unless you like to chit chat with your neighbor. Whatever on your side is your property.

thanks for the input guys.

i've only trimmed the bushes twice in like the last 4 years so it's not a big deal. this year, i actually let the leaves gather. it looks kind of nice when they first fall since they are yellow.

i think i'll just keep trimming as i need. like i said, it's not that big a deal to me. just wanted to see what everyone else thought

Sounds like a flowering pear or cherry tree. Like the other pp said you can trim back to your property line, but even if you trim it back you are still going to get leaves and flowers from the wind. Tell him to take it down and call me i will give a cheap price :) 1-800-tree-b-gone hahaha. Thats not a real number but kinda funny. ok im done now

The neighbors behind my house had several over grown weeds that had blossomed into some kind of Tree like foliage. On top of that their is Honey Suckle that is intertwined all through it. We're talking about 30' high. One day I went out with a chainsaw and a laser line and cut a vertical wall flush with my fence straight up. The following weekend when my neighbor was home she came over and asked what happened to the tree and the vines? I told her I cut them back because they were an eye sore from my side of the fence. She laughed and asked me if I could cut back the ones on her side too, that she couldn't stand looking back their at it. Now it's all trimmed down to about 5 1/2' nice and neat.

Maybe the best thing you can do is ask the neighbor about it.

To me... if your neighbor is a cool guy... then clean it up and be done with it.. just think if your neighbor was not a cool guy... you could have the neighbor from hell.. i think this is a tiny price to pay.. for a cool neighbor..be thank ful
