I may be getting one in the very near future and was wondering if there was anything I should know that may be different from common oscars. I figure there can't be too much difference aside from it coming from the wild and dealing with the transition but aside from that I can't imagine there's much else to know. If anyone has any input or experience keeping true wild oscars please do share.

I could be stepping on toes here for the oscar enthusiast, but there seems to be many here all excited about getting their WILD oscar from a reputable vendor, but..... all the sudden they are on the market, i.e. for sale here. Is it because of there best days appearance wise is when they are juveniles and don't look as good as they were advertised? Of course, there are many variances. Anyone here have a nice looking full grown wild oscar they can show?

Yes. It's my albino "red eye" GG. There are whie/golden ones with black eyes too which are a little easier to obtain.

Oh sweet, I want to get one for my 220, how do they do with tank mates?

Oh to the OP not trying to jack your thread....

Wild oscar vs "common" oscar
no difference just color... both love to eat and are big dogs

OP has a good thread that I have always wondered about. What makes a wild oscar different than a captive one. Appearance wise I meant. I know there are bumblebee and orinico types, but is there one that can share pics of a full grown one? Do they look nice????

Do you know the difference in appearance? Is one fancier than the other in their looks?

You make a good point but I'm wanting to get an oscar again anyways. It's been a while since mine died and I'm ready for a new one, the fact that it's advertised as wild from a vendor here doesn't matter too much to me but from what I've seen in stores around me I might as well spend a few more bucks within reason and chance getting something very unique and not just another LFS/Petsmart oscar. I think if the price is within reason I might as well get something I've honestly in the back of my head wanted for a while even if they're not always as nice as advertised. Appearance also isn't too important to me as long as the fish is happy and healthy. Thanks for the input though, no toes stepped on here.

Kool. I know we have all seen this. I think there was a MFK'er here where he put ones he got from a box store LFS and they are pretty darn similar appearance wise. Aside from that they will be happy in your tank and etc... Pretty cool at this smaller size, but anyone have a pic full grown?
