Question number 2 million about stocking a 75g (aka i have no idea what directiin to go with my tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a medium sized oscar in a 75, and all the post are correct about this being a high maintenance situation. Bi weekly water changes are necessary to maintain good water quality. If you end up with a large one over 12" a 75 will not be adequate. Though not a SA/CA, a paratilapia pollini is a super personable fish that does not get as large. Very hard to beat in appearance and personality.

Personality and/or "tameness" of a cichlid or some of the other more sentient species , has more to do with the keeper than the fish.
If you get a couple HRCs or any of the others provided on the list, very young, and you "hand feed" and spend lots of time, they will probably react accordingly. If you come home toss in some flakes and spend 3 minutes in front of the tank, they may never react to you in any other than an average fishway.

I have found that many of the Cryptoheros species such myrnae above and HRPs can both become quite interactive, and would be much more suited to that size tank

That looks like an amazing fish. I can't believe I haven't ever seen it mentioned.

That makes a lot of sense, thank you! I'm regretting not getting a larger tank, but I found the 75 gallon with stand for $90 and it was too good of a deal to pass up.

A couple years ago I "upgraded" my midevil to a 75 gallon. I regret not actually upgrading him to a 125 every day.
A 12" fish in a 75 gallon is pretty cramped.

I have one and love it. I think it is a pretty reasonable single fish for a 75g, but others may have a different opinion. Still a large messy fish so large water changes and heavy filtration will be necessary. Here is a link to a profile on the fish.

Have you posted pictures of yours here yet? I know I've seen it but an update would be cool.
This may not be the same fish you remember, the little one I had jumped. I have had this one since the end of april.

Very cool. Little stunner. I remember you lost the first one.

I'm a little late but I 100% second a paratilopia species. Currently my favorite fish I've ever owned, and regret rehoming it.
