Question on filtering a 260

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am running 2 FX5s on my 265 and it is doing an OK job. I need to rework the outputs to see if I can improve the flow a bit. Otherwise, I will need to add something to the mix. FYI, if you plan on buying an XP3 brand new, just spend the extra dough and get three FX5s.

I already have the XP3 that has been running for a couple of years.

OK, then no loss there. I just see a lot of stuff moving on the bottom of the tank. I might have to redirect the flow to help out. When they are on a big tank like that, they aren't as super as you would think.

How are they filtering the tank as far as Bio goes? Is your water crystal clear? Is your only problem lack of mechanical filtration?

get at least one 2260, or better yet a 2262. you won't regret it.

Yeah, I am considering the 2262. That's a lot of money though, especially after I just ordered a Tenecor. The 2262 is obviously more appealing than the 2260 because of gph, and because it comes with the quick disconnect valves.

I can get 2 FX5s for the same price as a 2262 though. If 2 FX5s can keep my water crystal clear, I want to go that route.

Get a wet dry Angler you won't regret it believe me .And aso where you have the return area plop some lucky bamboo in there I have a 180 gl tank a 20 gallon sump connected to a 20 gallon tote only 5 gallons of bio balls but two chambers are stacted with coarse sponge and in the tote five lucky bamboo and a huge clump of java moss. the tank at almost all times has 3 to 400 feeders and an oscar an lfs was going to kill because he got his lip ripped off in a fight with another oscar .Long story short i test regularly and Amonia and nitrite are always in check.. the only other water movement aside from the return pump witch is rated at 1630 gph with head probly 1100 gph and a koralia 4 just for more movement....By the way tankis running bare bottom Bro!!!!And the cost would be waaaaay less than the 600 you will pay for two fx5's

I think I'm gonna go with either:

2 fx5s and an xp3
or 1 fx5, 1 eheim 2260, and an xp3.

Or just leave the xp3 out....

Are you going a planted tank or non planted ?
What is your intended stocky density ?

Thanks for your input bro. I know you know what you're talking about, but I've decided to go with canisters.
