Well there are a few ways to get rid of algae. Obvious one is the fish, dependent on the type of algae. Also shrimp are a good choice. There is also overdosing the ferts under a healthy system to spur a growth increase from your plants which will make them outgrow the algae. There is removing it by hand for things like beard and brush algae. Finally, there is scraping and waterchange consecutively to rid the tank of some algae.

No worries about answering the questions. I just wish I would have had someone there to tell me all these things, rather than stumbling through the process, until I figured it all out.

No problem. Planted tanks have several things that are controversial, and some things that haven't been done yet that may or may not be better than current methods.

hey I have a bit of a brown slime algae prob what the best way to tackle this ??? every thing was growing and looking fine until I used some flourish,guess I was just geting impateint wanting the plants to grow faster, and now that stuff is all over? will ootos eat brown algae

Otos will do fine with the algae. One major thing is that when you fertilize, there has to be enough co2, and enough light for the plants to grow. A balance must be found in order to do this. If one is lacking you will get algae, if two are lacking you will get more algae, if all three are lacking, you won't get much algae, nor growth on plants.
