Most animals prefer to flee than fight so that's why I suggested you simply place him back in his cage and let go. As you mentioned, that's when he decided to let go.
So, how did it feel? Did my plan work or are you now even more worried that you may get bit in the future?
IMO, Tokays can be calmed down by regular handling. I mean, handle him every single day and he will calm down. The bigger problem with Tokay's is they are so damn fast and they have the ability to climb walls, ceilings, etc. so catching them is a pain in the ass.
I think the trick is to handle him and gradually ease up on your grip, give him a little freedom of movement over time. If he whips around and bites you, at least now you won't throw him across the room. See, there's a method to my madness!![]()
