A vendor told me brokopondo peacock bass get 16” max is this true I find it hard to believe as ocellaros get way bigger and if not what is smaller intermedia or kelberi and what are the growth rates. The next question would Be what is the slowest growing peacock bass

With the right diet and water change routine, 1" or so a month for the first year, and it tends to slow down. An inside tank width of 24" should be good for 3 years at the very least. I wouldn't put an 18" kelberi in a 24 in wide tank for it's whole life. The speed at which they reach the other side of the length of a tank is very quick, and wouldn't do less than 8 feet.

Kelberi grow fast until they hit 12” then it’s 1” every few months. Most max out about 18-24” in aquarium.

If you want something that looks like a peacock bass in terms of shape and temperment, but don't get quite as large, look at the red form and wild form of Petenia splendida.
