Questions about filtering large (180+) tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I switched the last tank I had running with a canister (a 180g) to Poret a few months ago and am very happy with the decision. Not only is it quiet (I use a pump and jet lifters) but it uses virtually no power, works great, requires very little maintenance and has been very effective.

Running with 2 x eheim 2217 and Eheim 2075 on my 240g because I wanted everything, including pumps to be as silent as possible in the living room. I've had no problems with this setup raising tank temperature or bioload.

Poret? and what pump and jet lifters?

Maybe I should try something more like your setup where there are more smaller canisters. The FX was never a problem until I started keeping CAs and wanted to lower the temperatures.

Any pics of how the tank looks with the "filter" installed?

I don't but there are a bunch of ways to set up Poret. I basically just have a 2'x2'x3" piece on one side of the tank. Some people use it in corners.

That is really cool. I have looked at the mattenfilter before thinking I would try it on one of my breeder tanks but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
