Questions about filtering large (180+) tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
On another tank , I run a water pump that feeds an airlifter for a poret filter, and the hum of the pump in the tank is still loud to me (compared to the canisters).

the 210 in my living room is completely silent.

I have the pvc pipe going into the filter sock just below the water level in the sump. the water coming in makes zero noise.
the slight hum from my wavemakers are louder than the water going in and my return pump. you can't even hear that hum unless your standing right in from of the tank with the tv off. took me a couple tries to get the water level and inlets where they needed to be but it was worth it.

wanted to add.

my sump is quiter than the fx4 in the 150 in the living room, and that sucker is quite.

bean animal style overflow and an internal pump in the sump. no noise, completely silent, my 240g had a 5x turn over rate per hour.

+1 to this.

I run my 220G, with BeanAnimal overflow and sump with a submersible EHeim pump, in my living room with TV - its the area family spends most of the time. I have around 4-5x turnover and it runs almost silently, and absolutely no distractions or noise. The glass tank, sump tank, and stand were custom built, and the time/effort spent on it was absolutely worth it. Its almost 1 year now am running this setup.

I had earlier 2 SunSun 304 canisters on my earlier 125G tank and that was more noisy compared to this current setup.

Read through your post and that looks great. Nice looking tank too!
