Filter imo can't go wrong with a AC110 and some other filter just to help out. Not sure bout everyone elses rbp but mine like some current so a powerhead or 2. Don't use the black light I tryed this in the past it scared them more than regular light. I beleave it was due to the fact that a blacklight is a high UV light heck they hurt my eyes. Mine seem to like light I have a 4' double light on mine that I am using a 5600k bulb and a 50/50 bulb.

thanks, I can't wait to get them out of this damn 10 gallon on Wednesday..they look bored as hell lol

Yeah I had a group of 5 sitting in a 20gal tall for a while split my tank to get them in my 55 so the others have time to get used to them befor they becom part of the shol another thing I recomend is a lot of hiding places and some drift wood (always boil mine first then let it soak for bout 3-7 days.) and sand mine like the sand over gravel easyer for them to move around to make beds. Play sand is also usualy cheaper than gravel. Takes a little more cleaning tho. I usualy put the sand in a 5gal bucket and go out side get the hose and let it rince out the sand (gets a lot of the finer partacles out and the dirt aswell.) it helps to stir the sand with eiter the hose or your hand. Run the water till it comes out clear and then stir and repeat. Doing it tys way also reduces(greatly) the clouding of the tank that goes with using sand.
On a side note what are you feeding thelil guysmay have some tips there aswell.

thanks for the tips, right now I fed them a few feeder fish. I haven't had them that long & it seems as if there picky. They ate the feeder fish, but it's seems they don't eat anything else I've tried so far. I'm not too sure what the aquarium was feeding him (the guy doesn't speak a bit of english) so I can't really figure it out...I've read pellets are good for them I may try them tomorrow...any suggestions?

I feed hikari cichlid floating pellets. Another thing you may try is tilapia fillets, earthworms, leaches, brineshrimp frozen is fine. For treats you may also feed thawed market shrimp (from grocery store) and beef heart the worms and leaches I sugested are best as treats aswell. But pellets are anexcelent stapel food. Another big tip VARIETY IS BEST TO FEED. Follow the last thing I said and you will be rewarded with long lived healthy and nicly collord rbp. I actualy feed mine tilapia and few other things weekly with pellets as a base food and the worms and other treats about once to twice a month.

Yeah I've been doing my research on those pellets, is it a specific "bag" of Hikari I should feed them? I've read Blue Gold is the best, as far as the other things you've suggested I'm going to do that. Do you think since I fed them those feeder fish I should not starve them, but let them get a lil bit more hungrier so when I feed them the pellets they'll eat them?

As far as I have seen if you get them to start eating prepaird food (tilapia fillets ,shrimp'ect) they more readily eat the pellets. As for starving them no I wuld not do it it works with some other fish such as cat fish but with piranhas it makes them go after tank mates. So I wuld try to get them to eat the other foods and toss some pellets in with them. Or if your lucky they may just take the pellets right away rbp realy arnt picky eaters. More like pigs lol.

Best way I've found to eliminate cloudy water from new substrate is put the rinsed sand or gravel or clay in the empty tank and line the tank with cardboard. This prevents the
rushing water from disturbing the substrate.

i'd say babies. how do you intend to seed this tank tomorrow?

I'm not too sure yet, the place that I'm purchasing the tank from sells the tank fully equipped (heater, pump, filter, etc) so I'll have to wait to see...any suggestions?
