Questions about piranha's?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My moms 30 gal came chipped like that and I just threw some silicone in the hole so it wasn't as noticeable and nobody would get cut on it. Its a good deal but remember you need the equipment to run it as well. Do you plan to go new or used on that part?

Not entirely sure, the ad says it comes with some equipment as well so I'll check that out first and see if it would suit my needs and go from there.

personally I wouldn't get that 75g, if the chip was at the top of the tank that's a different story but all the way at the bottom it's a ticking time bomb. 75g of water is a lot different than 30g of water, that's extra 360lb of water in the tank and water pressure at the bottom of the tank is the highest.
if it comes with some nice equipment then that's a different stories, you could get the tank for the equipments sake. since we don't know what equipment it comes with we wouldn't know what to tell you. the most expensive would probably be the filter but there are many kinds of filters and they range at different prices.
it's better for you to search around and get an idea on how much the common filters cost to see if it's a good deal or not.

Let's say I were to go brand new, ball parked how much would equipment run me back?

2 hang on back filters or one canister filter, new substrate, heater, thermometer, you're looking at 130-150ish for that. You'd still need decor and eventually a powerhead.

Personally, i'd pass on the tank because of the chip though but i might see if i could buy the equipment off him

don't forget about lights too.
if the current 75g comes with a FX5 or Ehiem Pro II or III and in good condition then grab it for $80, which is extremely unlikely.
any chance of you getting a list of what equipments are included?

Bah it seems somebody else already bought both tanks before I called. Ah well, there's a lot more I've found in advertisements of similair price, but without equipment. In fact most of the advertisements I'm finding are between 75 gallon and 100 gallon tanks that were used for housing reptiles.

So if I find something decent I'll most likely have to get equipment else where. Ah well, for now I'll keep shopping and see if I can eventually piece it all together, starting with the tank.

Yeah, the key is to look as often as you can and just wait for a good deal to come along. People tend to sale them as they upgrade or move and need to unload them pretty quickly. I'm sure you'll find a full set up for a similar price but it may take some time.

Yeah, you're right jp, i forgot about light. That could definetely jack up the price.

Well I may have found another tank that is awesome and for a great price.

I'll be asking for an exact equipment list that comes with it, but otherwise everything shown here for $300. He says there are just some very minor scratches from the gravel at the bottom of the tank, but otherwise in perfect condition and it was resealed last year as he had a leak in the top right corner.

it's still currently set up as a salt water tank so what would I need to do in order to get set up for pirahna's? I imagine I would have to replace the gravel and give the tank a thorough cleaning to convert over to fresh water, and possibly replace the plants in it assuming the plants wouldn't work in the new environment.
