Questions on shipping fish

So I guess the question now is: What re the chances of the four separately bagged keyholes surviving the 3 day journey to NY without oxygen tablets or pure oxygen in the bag?

And without spending more than $10-15, is there a way to get some high yield oxygen not found in a fish store or having to order something online (which won't help because the fish ship in two days)?

Bag Buddies have a sort of sedative effect (they contain clove oil) that puts the fish a bit out, so that its metabolism slows, thereby using less oxygen, etc.
If it were me, I'd warn the buyer that using a 3-5 day form of shipping, a 50/50 survival rate may be all that is expected.

Is it possible to just buy some clove oil to dose the water or is it trickier than that?

Someone said bag buddies are discontinued, but is there another similar brand I could use for future shipping?

I have warned the buyer there is no guarantee on live arrival and informed him that it will be 3 days. He has 300+ feedbacks in Aquabid, so I am guessing he is at least fairly experienced and knowledgeable about shipping livestock.

The question would be, how much clove oil puts the fish out, and how much kills it.
You would need to experiment on some sacrificial fish to gauge for yourself.
In some shipments I have received, there has been a tiny chunk of sponge filter in the bag, maybe 1/2" square in size, a sort of beneficial bacteria factory provided.
In theory this may help use up the ammonia produced by the fish, but it would also have its own biological oxygen demand.

I would make sure you have bags large enough that you have a pocket of air on top that is a least 2/3 the bag volume. I would also add a drop of prime and a drop of methylene blue and hope for the best. Not a great time of year to ship anything living especially since most of NY is going through a bit of a warm spell.
