questons about my freshwater ray

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It seems like rays are pretty poorly adapting to eating fish...I thought they mostly fed from the substrate in the wild?

well that is true goldfish isnt the most heathy source of food, for fish but there is somthing called amune systems in this world, but i guess austin is just learning that forgive him lol, feeding live food once in awhile is a good treat for your fish, wether its goldfish, rose reds,or mollys its still the right thing to do.

Well, what the fish have is actually an 'immune system.' And whether or not they have it, it is still ridiculous to put one's prized, beautiful fish in jeopardy by feeding them something unhealthy. When you lose a fish for the first time due to parasites or problems related to thiaminase, perhaps your opinion will change. I think the person who needs to ask forgiveness here is you; between this post and your other one which indicated to the OP that 'fish grow to the size of their tank,' you're spreading misinformation which could be dangerous and detrimental to fish. Please, please research!

IMMUNE system IMMUNE, IMMUNE,IMMUNE! They do mostly feed from the substrate in the wild, that being small fish and worms....I'm done now.

on and it's spell fingers....13 year old child fail...

i agree that feeders are good for fish, but to me its not worth it.

u can give your fish just as much nutrition on other foods, without the risk of parasites and diseases....

lol listen we have are own opinion on things, ive had many fish and never had i problem with goldfish as a odd treat,a guy i know of 30 yaers experience he tells me the same thing i told you never take away live foods from a predetory fish, now do you expect me to listen to your opinion or his, i agree that goldfish arent heathy but i still stand by what i said about not completrly taking away live foods from a predator fish, thank you no disrespect have a nice night..

Goldfish have very little nutrional value compared to other feeder type fish. I wouldn't ever feed them to ANYTHING, let alone a ray.

Rays have very specific diets in the wild, and are not 100% predatory, they do scavange a LOT. Do a little reading around this section, and you'll find volumes of solid info from the top minds in freshwater stingray keeping.
Most rays are looking for inverts (shrimp, snails, clam, worms), some are catching small fish in their diet as well.
Calcium and iodine are things I like to make sure my rays get. A well rounded diet is best. I'd suggest earthworms, market shrimp (prawn), krill, mysis (but only PE brand mysis, don't waste time with low quality junk), Mazuri Shark/Ray gel diet and possibly ghost shrimp for live food from time to time.

immune system has nothing to do with feeding feeders LOL
bad feeders destroy an immune system LOL
its immune not amune LOL
feeding feeders is definitely NOT the right thing to do LOL
fish DO NOT grow to the size of their tank LOL

30 years of uneducated experience is just a pile of crap compared to 3 days of educated experience...

To Austin: LOL he actually changed the fingers

"Everyone is entitiled to thier own opinons" said by my recent past uncle (very wise). In my opinion, I don't have a ray yet until tomorrow, but I've been doing a lot of researching and in conclusion austin and grindel are both right. Austin is right that feeding live goldfish can be harmful to rays because they may be infected with anchor worms. Grindel is right too because a gold fish can be fed as an odd treat because this will make the ray use his hunting skills, but should be use as a treat monthly unless you breed them or you trust the lfs on how they take care of there live feeders. In others you guys are both right.
