Quick Question on Angelfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im not sure, but yes I am going to get a test kit, but I will also be getting plants to help my water quality and help the fish feel more secure. would adding plants be a mistake? Also is API the test kit that I should get? That seems to be the one that everyone has and since my lfs doesn't stock them I need to order them on amazon.

The plants won't hurt, they might even help a little bit but the test kit is a must have. API is the most popular kit here, buy one of them and don't worry about liquid carbon or adding ginger and things to food and such things yet.
Focus on the basics. Keep the water changes frequent as you can and if possible increase aeration as the liquid carbon does drop the oxygen level of the water.
How are all the other fish going now? I'm starting to think you got some dodgy angelfish from the shop. Even if that's the case, keeping the water fresh and clean for the other fish and adding some plants won't do any harm.

I will do a large wc as soon as I get home today as I am in school, does 5 30 sound too late? Also if I fish is showing symptoms of a disease or anything can frequent wc and a better diet save it and stop all symptoms?

Frequent water changes can boost fish health, and a fishes immune system, so give it a better chance at fighting off maladies.
They however , won't kill parasite or bacterial infections. Few, and wimpy water changes allowing water quality to degrade, do have the abilitty to worsen fish health, and allow infections to get the upper hand.
Time of day for water changes is not relevant, in nature fish are undergoing constant water changes, in some rivers 100% every minute..

Okay so I removed the angelfish, just gave them back to my lfs hoping that they can do something about their current state and possible medicate and then resell, but I am going to do a WC right now, should I gravel back to scoop up any escaping parasites, or just changing the water will be fine? All the other fish are back to normal, no more spazzing out form any of the fish. I think I am just going to do a normal WC because better water quality couldn't hurt. Also is doing too many WC bad or stressful for the fish? Because my pearl gourami that I've had for around 6mo are used to it and swim in the current of the pipe, the other fish are a little wary. Also, I got a phyton water changer so when I'm filling up the tank do i fill up with water then add conditioner? or a little water, then a little conditioner until it adds up to however much I take out? Or conditioner first then water?

If your angels did have a parasite they could have already infected your other fish and you might see signs of the illness in the near future. Something to keep in mind.

also gravel vacuuming does not eradicate a parasite. It doesn’t hurt to grave vacuum a little bit each water change as it gets rid of food and poop that may have settled.

when water changing you want to put the water conditioner in the tank before you start filling it up. Treat for the entire tank volume, not just the replacement water.

Alright, but why should I treat the entire tank/ My conditioner is the one with stress coat enhancers and isn't too much of that not good/ I've been dosing for just how much I replace and never had s problem with that.

I don’t know the technical stuff behind it like some of the other members do, but basically as the new water mixes with the old water you want enough conditioner to treat all the water volume. If all the water isn’t treated your fish could be exposed to harmful chlorine or chlorimines. if that makes sense?

The only way one should be treating only the water going back into the tank is if it’s mixed in a bucket before being added to the tank.

that could have been another reason for your angels flicking off decor. Depending if your city uses chlorimines or chlorine in the water, it could have been irritating the angels when you do water changes asthe entire column of water was not treated with conditioner.

Ohh okay, I'm going to be adding more wc from now on. I think its because in my other tanks I used a handheld tube and mixed in a bucket. Also, I had put lotion on my hands a while previous, I'm pretty sure I was able to wash most of it off but will it be a problem? it's unscented by the way.

Absolutely the lotion can be a problem. Even scent free stuff you don’t want in your tank.

usually when I work in my tanks I wash my hands with warm water and dry them off then start working in my tanks.

I plan my lotion routine around my tank maintenance lol

if you want to be double sure no lotion is going into your tank, you can purchased gloves that go all the way up your arms.

okay, I washed my hands with water and then wiped it off with a towel. All the fish seem to be doing well, no spazzing, eating well, displaying normal behavior, ie. being active, responding and following my finger.
