I have a male dovii that is about 7 inches long, he has killed everything in the tank that i put in there. most of the fishes were a little bigger then him.

I was wondering if i can put a small mouth bass in with him or a peacock bass.

The tank is a 125 gallon. I have a 300 gallon that's gonna be set up soon

Thank You

Well, since he has killed everything else you have ever put in with him, and most those fish were a little bit bigger than him, I'm going to go out on a limb and say a SMB or Pbass would be a bad idea.

:iagree: You pretty much answered your own question. If he killed everything before, he'll probably do it again.

You should take him out, keep him in a bucket or a rubbermade container for about two days. During that time add some fish. Then reintroduce him. There is a chance he might accept them, or might revert to his old homicidal ways.

You could also get some Crenicichla....particularly marmorata or lenticulata. They would be sure to let him know he isn't boss. ;)

Thats the risk of owning a Dovii, some might be cool with other fish in the tank and others may want to kill anything they see no matter the size.If I were you I'd put a female in there with him, throw like a female midas or something cool to cross him with.Check out the Doviis in my album....

i have a 12" dovii, which i've had a little over a year, and i've come to the conclusion that there really is no fish out there who will survive with him... no matter what the size is...

How about a Red Terror or a Black Nasty?I think they would be able to hang with him. But they would have to be close to the same size.

It sounds like it would make sense, but this is a misconception about cichlids - to put something in equally large and aggressive so they can hang with each other. This would be a bad idea; there would be blood.
