You have a great cichlid few will ever have the pleasure of keeping. Embrace the fact he is better off alone and happy...you be his only friend!

I would consider it more "counterpoint" as opposed to "insightful"

I was just pointing out the fact that many folks here have dovi, I have 4 myself. Biggest one being in the 17 inch range.

Have a great day.............

Much more often than not, I read about Dovii needing to be kept alone. I have mine with a female, but I fear for her life pretty much every day, lol.

I tried him with an argentea. He demolished the argentea. I have not tried him with anything else. I already know the outcome.

Ihave three big dovi, seven large loaches, and two plecos together.Been together for over eighteen months.

I have my little 7" dovii by it's self in a 210. So far his victims include four silver dollars, one male dovii and two female dovii. :(

I would love to be able to keep some other fish with him in hopes that it would bring him out of his shell. He is still very shy and hides almost all of the time.

It is amazing how different fish of the same species can be. I doubt I could add another species to my 240 but right now there is no problems. My real big male is in a separate tank. Iam trying to breed my smaller, more streamlined male.

SSJ, back to your original question...you can either continue to throw fish in there till one of them doesn't get killed, doesn't kill your dovii, and is accepted as a roomate (expensive route)...or just keep your dovii alone.

your dovii may be decalring himslef a loner but I would try removing him rearranging the tank and addign the tankmates, then placing him in.

it should change the dynamic.

if he still seems to be acting the same then you've got a choice, a single dovii or several other fish.
