Quick Tigrinus Question

Also try taking out the gravel or sand from the tank. I kept mine on glass bottom for a wile, he seem to find the feeders faster.

Stop beating around the bush, give him guppys or small minnows. I've never had a problem with live feeders. Yeah don't do it if you can clearly see they have problems like ich. But every person I have talk to have given their tig feeders intill they are big enough to eat shrimp. And most likely the people that say theirs eats frozen foods or pellets have waited to the point were their tigs on the edge of death were they would even eat their own s**t if it was laying around. Those that say other wise and are going to give me hate mail, you know it. My tigs grown over 3 in he's since I've had him at 3 inches and is thick and healthy.

I agree that feeders may be a good idea as a last resort or perhaps to fatten him up a bit. The part where I don't agree is that it's not about how fast your fish has grown, it's about how healthy he will be eating dirty feeders. Unless you have your own supply of clean feeders, I would avoid them at all costs

I don't just dump all of them in at once when I bring them home from the store. I keep mine for weeksbefore feeding them to him. Plus I would only have enough for him to eat at a time. Keeping alot in at once won't teach him what's food and what's friend, mine would burst if I just let him go to town on them.

And if a fish haven't grown since you have gotten him months ago, you can tell me he's health.

So then what's the difference if he doesn't eat frozen for the 3 weeks I'm quarantining the feeders? - _ -

I appreciate the info but I am not doing feeders. I don't trust the shops around here pumping 100s of guppies into my water.

Why not find someone that you could get some fry from locally? I could call a half dozen people in a town 1/4 the size of Chicago and get some small fish in an hour, and not buy dirty feeders. What about Craigslist? Put a WTB ad on here? I completely understand your concern, especially if you have central filtration.

ya central filtration is gonna suck with this and my idea probably isnt that smartest but,

I would have or would put him in his own tank and like others are suggesting dump in tons of guppies and honestly i have never gotten ick from guppies just goldfish. Put them in at night so the aro will hopefully not try to eat as much.

If your not gonna do that i would stick to blood worms as those seem to be the best for getting all types of carns (pbass, tsn ect) off live ime

Did anyone suggest cutup smelts? I was lucky as mine ate frozen and a week later started eating carnivore. My tig at 12" eats massivore, carnivore and any frozen if he is quicker then the rays! LOL

He was eating live black worms and krille. Feed it that and he will be fine. I have had over 50 tigrinus in the past 5 years and never lost one. Always eat live black worms and then frozen
