at night the lamp would go off but the pad would stay on and he would retreat back to the shelf and sleep on the pad, for 2 years he did this and never got burned. i watched him sleep sometimes, big cozy green brat!
Reptiles are not fish. What work with one reptile will not necessary means it will work for another. Each of them have their own specialized care. There is a few "general rule of thumb" like with snakes, but not all snakes benefit from heatpads... some diurnal species of snakes do better with a lamp than a heat pad.
