I've heard that, too, but it is a myth. Well, it WILL create noise if you restrict the inlet, but not the outlet. I can go from full open to full closed without any change in sound. I also put my hand over the outlet of the one that I tested in the tub and restricted it completely without any change in sound.

i have tubing coming in today

ill let you know for sure :)

Sweet. If you tell me that it is quiet (like everyone else has), someone at Pentair is getting a reaming:swear:

If you're ordering from the same place then theres a strong possibility that all of the pumps you've used came from the same production lot. They usually either drop ship or buy in bulk. The fact that the pump makes more noise under water in the tub with no plumbing and no head pressure is a very telling point. This shouldn't be happening and to me...even though it seems unlikely that 3 in a row have the same problem...it indicates a problem with the pumps themselves rather than your system.

2 came from Dr.s foster and smith. The third came from straight from the manufacturer. However, I too think that it is the pumps and not the system. Mainly because two of them were tested while disconnected from the system. The other one was run connected and disconnected without any difference. This brand just seem to be junk, IMO. For $180 a pop, you would think that they could get one out of three right.:(

I know how you feel...I was thinking about your problem and I remembered a pond pump I used that made a lot of noise. What I found out was that the shaft bushings were fine and tight but that under load the impeller shaft moved in and out due to the variations in the impeller itself. I epoxied a small block of plastic to the cover and the noise went away. Of course the POS pump only lasted a year before I had to replace it...but I thaught you might want to check the end play on the shaft just in case.

hmmm...not a bad idea. I'll check that tonight. Even if I find play, I'm not going to do anything about it. I'm not going to "rig it" because the manufacturer couldn't get it right when they made the thing. It would confirm that they need to try again, though.

is the pumpl loud or the gurgeling noise?????

It's the pump itself. Not a water noise, but a mechanical sound.
