No I want you to explain to me how a felon cant keep fish. Iv never been background checked at my pet stores.

It's become apparent that your intellect lags behind your smug sense of humor. The reference was obviously to a felon while serving his time, such as for a federal crime involving theft from, or interference with, a company involved in interstate transportation. It is perhaps an idea worth considering, however, to require a background check before allowing some people to keep fish. This thread is a waste of time, as no one with any sense is going to use rocks off a railroad track in thier aquairum and those without common sense will not be swayed in their foolishness anyway.

You people need to SERIOUSLY read the thread. It was 'n question if it would be possible. Its not about saving some money taking railroad rocks vs granite. IT WAS A QUESTION IF IT COULD BE DONE. Majority is against it because of toxins ( or they are all railroad workers)

I worked for the railroad for a while. I wouldnt let anything railroad related come anywhere near my tank. I dont care what it is.

Yeah it could be done. And yeah, it's a felony.

Rock under the tracks is called ballast. It could be anything from anywhere. Just go to a garden shop and get you some rock, do the acid test and call it a day.

Granted I would avoid the tar covered ones, but would they work in the aquarium? I know theres more than one kind of rock by the tracks, nothing a little acid test couldnt fix. Anyone done it? I like the colors, and free is my favorite word

you can get the same rocks a lowes

If the point of this thread was to find out if YOU COULD PUT THE RAILROAD ROCKS in your tank...you can.

You can also put used car batteries.

My husband is a trackman for Union Pacific and when asked if he would use ballast in an aquarium his comment was "GOD IN HEAVEN NO!"

So there you go. I've seen some of the stuff they use around railroad tracks, no way I'd put anything from near tracks in my aquarium.
