Raised white spots on Pleco

Hello; I agree with the OP's statement in the initial post in that the spots seem a bit large for ich.
I guess that all depends on how big his fish is. If that’s a pic of a 12” royal then I’d say those spots are huge but that looks to be a juvenile and it’s looks to be ich to me at least. OP, how big is that fish and how’s it doing now?

Some spots did look like it and others didn’t. Since it more spots developed quickly and got better with heat and salt likely Seen a few fish with large ich spots that were questionable.

Most spots look like ick, but some others look like the secondary bacterial infections the take hold where the ick spot left a lesion in the fishes skin.
To cure ick you need a salinity of at least 3ppt (parts per thousand) otherwise the ick go on their merry way reinfecting. In 150 gallons that means you need 5 lbs of salt, and each time you do water changes, you need to replace the appropriate amount of salinity removed. You also need to keep up the salinity for 10 days to 2 weeks after all spots are gone.
Each spot erupts into hundreds of new ick, so just because you can't see them, doesn't mean they are not there. The youngest ick are microscopic.
The problem with rising the temp, is that those secondary infection bacteria (not the ick) become more virulent at the high temps, and can be a worse problem to correct than ick.

Hello; I follow this and it makes sense.

Thanks for all of the information. The Royals affected are both roughly 9" and yes, some of the spots were quite large for ich.

While not totally cleared up, the fish have shown great improvement. I'm doing a water change now and will keep up with the salt for the next week and a half.

Will report back accordingly. Thanks again.

Keeping up with salt through next week but both fish look completely clean. They're behaving and eating as they should.

Still not sure what the issue was but salt and temp seemed to resolve it.

Really appreciate all the help!

Can we get an update on this. It seems one of my l25 just got something that looks very similar.

I no longer have those fish but the process used did remedy the issue. Pics of the L25?
Thank dharis. Just took 3 days of what was outlined on this thread and the symptoms all went away. I'm not sure it's ich, but I do know either the temp or the salt got rid of it.
