god you got the worst advice ever in this thread.

a 75gal would be fine for a while. just know you will need an upgrade within a year or 1.5yrs. in 6 months the silver should be close to 12 inches, depending how big your pbass is, it wont eat a 12" fish. if the tank isn't to stocked up, it'll be fine for them two for a while.

everyone who gave advice in this thread seems like there 12, except for the roid comment, LOL 2ft in 1 yr, please... take the fish out n measure it n stop guessing.

if aros generally get to 12in in 6 months why is 24in in 12 months so out of the question?

DELETE THREAD PLEASE! TO HOSTILE!

IMO... you could keep a silver arowana in a 48 x 18" 75 gallon tank until it is about 16" long. I too have heard of claims of silvers growing to 24" in a year. Though I have not seen any documented proof of this.

I did in fact keep my silver in a 75g until it was 14~15" long. this is how long it was one year after i bought it at 2.5". Average growth of silver arowana is 1 to 1.5" per month but seldom do you see silvers grow 18" in a year. So figure starting with a 3"er it'll be about 9~12" in six months and 15~20" after a year. Just about all silver aros will be 24" after 18 months, once they reach this size growth slows to about 1 or 2" per year. As stated this is average so it could grow a bit faster or slower.

I would figure that in about 10 months you will need to have a 180g 6x2x2' tank available for the silver to move into. Within 2 or 3 years figure on having a monster tank that is no smaller then 8' long and 30" wide.

Regarding keeping of a 3" silver arowana. They require very clean and stable water conditions and really should be kept without any tankmates until they are about 6". Only then should the tankmate be selected carefully. I would suggest nothing smaller then a 55g with only about 40g of water in it. With the lower waterline you can keep the aro from injury as a result of jumping.

well i got my jardini at 3in and had him alone in a 55. i waited till he was eating and good health and added 2 birchers that were 2in's with him about two weeks later. and now i just picked small little maybe a 1 1/2 clown knife and added him in to, they are all so small they never run into each other and they all have plenty of hiding places. but i already have my 100 gallon running with fish to getting ready for these fish. and once they grow out of that sell the 55 and 100 gallon tanks and buy a 210. you have to know what is going to be the best for the fish you buy and plan on there next step of growth. well thats how im doing it and all my fish are plenty active and healthy

Because once they hit 12", the grow rate will slow down.

THANK YOU!!!!

3-4" aro growing to 12" is not 2" a month, its only 8 or so inches in the 6 month period, expect it slow down a bit as it ages. by the end of the year it'll be between 15-18 inches if that. after the second year like bderick said it'll be either 22" or close to 24". after that its a waiting game. over the next 6 years it may reach 30 inches. girth, then length, more girth, more length. its a pattern.

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=62354&highlight=inch+arowana+year Maybe Im not the one who doesn't know my stuff...Maybe you need to be a bit responsible with your pets. 4 years in a 18" wide tank? Thats either bs or you really need to do some serious homework... You said yourself it'll hit 18 within a year, which is ALREADY too big for the tank. So you say 1-1.5" per month now, what happened to 2-3" per month? :screwy:

I couldn't agree more. Not every one here is a professional and with a lot of money to invest a big tank at the first time.
I have raise a jar (about 10cm) in 75g tank; and in 2 months, it grows to 25cm. Now I see it still happy with the tank; but I am thinking about change tank.
