random death

sorry about your loss. I had the nicer of my two WC marble motoros males just die out of the blue. It sucks, but hang in there and don't let this discourage you.

thanx, oh i'm hangin...i still plan to get my females in on a fri. order if the funds are ready...i will try to get some meds to add in addition to salt to be extra sure on parasites, but what should i get as i have read in some threads that internal parasites are hard if not impossible to treat with the meds at hand?

Usually, the first thing I would say now is, your jar probably killed it. But seeing as there are no physical injuries on the ray, that doesn't seem to be the case. Like others have said before, are probably either hooks as 95% of retics are wild caught, or internal damage from before it got to you. There have been a couple situations, where a retic just randomly dies even after months in a tank.

ya that was my first thought also...i have been watching that jar like a hawk and givin it some love like hao suggested to keep it good...it seems to be working...it could have been from the shock of changing the backround from blue to black last night as i found it looking at the backround of the tank...can fish have heart attacks?

when i found it it looked like it was breathing with the current in the tank...when it didn't move when i went to clean next to where it was, thats when i got concerned...i resorted to the age old tried and proven tecnique...i grabbed my pipe cleaner and gave it alittle poke...nothin, so i filpped it over and then my fears were confurmend...grave yard dead....then i said a few choice words and here we are...also i have read every ray sticky up there some many times i could resite them with out looking...

well went to the lfs a little bit ago to see if they had my black worms and they didn't...but i did find some blood worms and the other ray i have was and is chowing down on them so i think we're green light on him...that whole random death is dumb...i hate it there needs to be a reason for everything, this is the third time i have had this type of death to my fishes...first 2 times were with my tinfoils now a ray...at least i still have one and i will get more on fri...i will also get praxi pro to treat the new ones in additoin to my current ray to be safe...i was joking on the backround...though i would die if my world changed once not several times...

Nobody likes the random death, but thats the way it is. It might not even be a random death in your case, but since you think doing an autopsy is beyond your beliefs, I wouldn't expect an accurate answer or even a plausible explanation.

true an autopsy would/ could shine some light onto the subject, but it is to late for that now...it is crazy i can't chop up a cool fish that is higher on my fish list, but some sunfish that i had in my tank for a few months i was able to scoop out smash their heads in to kill them and feed them to my catfish...i think it is more of a feeder fish type of deal with the predators are more like dogs or cats to me and bait fish are like well bait fish that serve a perpose for a food supply and that is about it...

sorry to hear about your loss sbuse. and wow i was just on here yesterday thinking how they were looking pretty good. i dont think it starved as his tail wouldve looked like they did when we received them actually smaller and he didnt look bad at all. im guessing maybe internal or idk. you did have a gut feeling though but sometimes there is nothing we can do about it.

on your blackworms why dont you get them shipped directly to you. a pound seems to last me for a good while. just takes a little cleaning but with these retics eating just about only those its worth it. plus the shipping is next day so you dont have to wait on your lfs employees to get off there buts. also you might save some money. i wish you luck on your new ones and glad this isnt stopping you from getting them. maybe even you can talk your wife into getting a motoro next time, and who knows maybe he will help knock them female retics up. but good luck and hope your next batch comes in healthy.

oh ya and lastly lol the thing i have noticed about retics is that a well fed one tends to be very lazy.
