I've been looking into exotic animals constantly, all different kinds of exotic animals.

I've been trying to look for an exotic animal that would do well my Bird, a Yellow Collared Macaw.
And I've also been looking for an exotic that could be let out to free roam the house and still not harm the bird.

I asked a who runs a place Called CroZoo(they have a website if you wanna check 'em out) and we talked about armadillo's being a possibility as they are insectivores.

So, I will most likely be getting a 9-banded Armadillo, as I have read up on there care exstensively.

But I was just wondering if anyone out there could recommend and exotic that wouldnt harm the bird, and that wouldnt mind being handled, and possibly harness trained.

I know this is kind of a dumb question, but f anyone could answer it that would be great, as most the exotic's I've looked at would harm the bird. With Armadillo's being the only one that wouldnt harm it.

That would be awesome owning a armadillo. We see them every now and then around here.
It could also be used as a weapon...a drunk shows up at your house, get armadillo to curl up and throw it at the guy.

I found a store online once that sold both anteaters and sloths.. I believe both were pricey and I know the latter was around 2-4k..

Don't know if either would harm the bird. You'd have to read up for that. But just ideas..

Do you have the link for the asite that was selling the sloths/anteaters? I've been looking around for them. I've found two-toed sloths on exotic animal classifieds, but I'd like to see the site. I've also been looking for anteaters with no luck.

Most Two-toed sloths I've been finding are about $2000 and up.

The armadillo will cost me about $150 from a USDA Licensed breeder.
Very cool critters.

And flapper12, isnt the Armadillo Texas' state animal? If I remember correctly it is.

Haha, Yeah. It is quite a bit less costly.

I've got some really cool plans for its enclosure aswell. I'm going to take pvc pipes and link them to rubbermaid containers filled with nesting material and put the pvc pipes under the substrate a little bit. Why I'm using rubbermaids is because I can then just open the top of the rubbermaid when I want to get him out, or just check on him.

Thanks for the site links! I really like world exotics. I would get a Coatimundi, but it would eat my bird! Awesome site, they have porcupines! Wich is what I've also been looking for !x Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!

Dude an armadillo, that is so killer. Take a bunch of pics.

PVC outgasses some pretty nasty organics. I would highly recommend not sealing your armadillo in an environment like that.

Even though advanced fishkeepers and herptilekeepers deem PVC safe?

Cool, I prefer the 3 banded, smaller and a bit cuter. I doubt they'd harm anything much except for maybe an overprotective mother of new babies. Get 2 and breed them... although I have heard that it isn't that easy (at least for the three banded) and even when successful it seems to be one sided in getting males, think it's something to do with their diet. They are hysterical though to watch. Apparently 9 banded armadillos were/ are used in leprosy research as they have "cloned" twin babies that are exactly genetically the same.
Letting them loose in the house... you could, and you can house train them, but I think I'd watch them, they are so curious and they do like to destroy things... digging up carpet etc.
