Ok i need to vent a little...how come nobody knows the damn size of their tanks when they post them on Craigslist?!?!??!?! :irked:

I check my local craigslist listing daily in seach of a 180+ tank. I have literally seen 5-6 tanks labeled as 200, 240, 250, etc. When I call to get actual dimensions of the tank, I get the typical 6x1.5x2 or similar which is nowhere near the 240 as advertised!!!

Are these people trying to pull a fast one, or do they really not know the size of their tanks? A simple google search will find you a volume calculator so you can accurately list your tank. This just upsets me

That is all, end of rant. kthxbye! :nilly:

Take advantage of it.... pursue the purchase, then right at the end throw that in their face and then only offer a fraction of what they're asking...

Yeah, I would do that normally but I want something that's 180+ since a 125/135 is close to what I currently have. Oh well, maybe one day I'll find a REAL 240 on there!!

There is a lot of misrepresentation on craigslist. :(
There are also a lot of good deals. :)

Part of the problem may stem from the manufacturers; they often give tanks "numbers" that don't reflect the actual size. A "150" might hold 138 gallons of water, my "135" is closer to 125 gallons...

Craigslist isn't all bad, I just picked up a big pile of 1/4" and 3/8" glass sheets for $10.00!

be patient and vigilant, 240's show up in this neck of the woods fairly often. how far are you willing to travel, do you check the craiglist listings for the areas near yours?

what are you looking to spend?

Yeah, I check modesto, sac, stockton, fresno and bay area. And yeah, im not in a real hurry. If i dont find one, ill just take a trip down to ATA in LA. they got 240's glass for $499 brand new

I once went to pick up a 20 gal with stand and accessories for $30. Got there, saw that it was a 10 gallon tank, offered half the money and left with something other than what I wanted but at least it was a sweet deal :p.

ime from working in a store most people dont know what they have....

Isn't that the truth. I was buying a 110 with a sump and a fluval canister. I thought it was glass. When I got there it was a 110 tall acrylic. I love it. It is now my Discus tank.

when i worked in pet retail, it was funny when you ask a customer so how big is your tank, and a lot of times the answer wasn't in gallons, it was a hand gesture of how big the tank is.
