Alright, so I did a 25% WC just now. The Raph seemed to get active for a few minutes, but is now back in his hiding spot. I wish I could do a bigger WC right now, but my tap water is way high pH & it takes a while to stabilize. I'm afraid the pH swing would be too much for him. I didnt add any salt or meds this time, either.
 
Sounds like you know what you're doing. I hope he recovers. Raphaels are known for their hardiness, so we can all hope the best! That high pH is a problem, man. I'm glad I don't have to fight that fight...

Also, the meds you put in the tank are probably concentrated in his tissues and may take some time to bleed back out. Not all meds, but plenty are taken in. Catfish are chemical sponges thanks to their exposed skin. If he can beat the curve and hang on until the toxins in him system work their way out, he'll make it.
 
I was wondering about how long it would take him to get better... Are we talking days or weeks? He's only about 1.5 inches & the tank is a 20G long. Will it help to do another WC tomorrow, or just stress him out more? I really need a salt test of some kind...

Yeah. I have perfect water for Africans, but I dont keep any!
 
Give it about a week or so. Should be back to normal in no time.
 
Extra water changes are always a good thing. Just match temps and use declorinator if you need to. It's hard to tell what's wrong with him so I have no idea how long before he gets better (hopefully he will).
 
Well, he got all spastic earlier. He just hauled ass all over the tank at the waterline, until he wore himself out and went to his cave. He's still in there, hanging from the ceiling. He is still pumping his gills 1000mph, but he's starting to get some yellow back in his stripes. They have been white all day. I hope that's a good thing!
 
you need to do 75% water chang with ick meds
that is why you are killing your fish whith 25%
 
I did two 25% WC's yesterday. One morning, one evening. Is that good or do I need to do another? I think all the salt & meds are out... All help is appreciated!
