I wasn't saying they would all be orange as with most all amphs fry vary in coloration within the same spawn greatly. Mainly in body shape. An f1 who doesn't feed in the specialized way wc do then I don't see the snout development happening. Here's my creamsickle f1 male. Have him for sale if your interested;)

The black/molted color doesn't seem to be a passed on to f1 fry very often and rarely sticks around for the life of tank bred fish. Your more than likely looking at orange/creamsickle offspring. I don't know but it seems as if the black colors seem to be a wc adaptation that doesn't pass on to f1 from what I've seen.

Who would the vet send it to? Where do we have a database of the genome of the Amphilophus family?

I have no idea. some University, stateside or in CA?
 
This raises a very good point about profile of labs. Im curious how with only one generation this species profile changes??Why does this not happen with most other species?
