Rapps is in the right.Just be lucky he dosent want a grand, because he would get that too.Do you know how many people there are in this hobby where money is not an issue?Quite a few.Im shure he knows fellow business owners who wouldnt bat an eyelash at a $1000 transaction.

Glad you got it.. at least it's going to a good home..

That was just good business sense. Imagine how many people inquire about this species? Now ask what price YOU would put on it. Sell it to whom? And for how much? He got the pair of fish for nothing...lost one and calculated odds on getting another half of a breeding pair...and sold it at a price that someone apparently was willing to pay. Jeff's a great guy, but he's running a business. I'm glad there are folks out there that can get these hard to find fish back in the hobby. I respect the guy for what he's done for the hobby.

My two cents...

For the record, you can forget the Beani. Here's my holy grail. Hericthys Steindachneri. We targeted this fish in Mexico and came up dry. Apparently the locals think it is a particularly tasty cichlid. One other guy has them in the U.S. and hasn't ben able to get them to breed.:

He got them for NOTHING?? wow! I know there are no ethics in business if you want to succeed, but If it were me personally and I cared about the future of the fish in the hobby I would offer it free to the first person with a female to breed it to as long as I got some fry from the breeding.

I would also rather have the Herichthys steindechneri nice fish!:headbang2

He didn't get it for nothing. He split the travel and other costs with the person who actually collected it.

Jeff is a great guy and does a lot for the hobby........ It wouldn't be remotely right to question his ethics.

I am not trying to say he is a bad guy I love his fish and for a long time he was the only person to buy good fish from. BUT I personally question the intentions of anyone selling anything for a ridiculously marked up price. He sold it to make money point blank no questions about it. If he truly cared or wanted to keep the fish in the hobby he would have searched the globe for someone with a female. Its not like he is buying a new house with what he sold it for I mean it was only $500 not really that much. But I personally wouldnt have sold it for that much. I also dont like that cichlids that are endangered and even extinct from madagascar are so expensive that they will never be mainstream and risk being lost forever. I also dont like paying $3.00 a gallon for gas but hey this is the world we live in money makes the world go round. I am rambling but I dont want anyone to think I think Jeff Rapps is a bad guy.

Ok, I think this is going a little too far when people's ethics are being called out. I find it funny that people are talking about how $500 is way too much for a beani, but they don't have anything to say about $600 lince cats, $500 hawaiin dragon eels, $500 plus rays, $1500 plus aros, $500 alexandri cats, $3000 aimara, $500 armatus (when they broke into the hobby), trillion dollar platinum anythings, and the list goes on. Is the point getting across? Is it because it is a cichlid that everyone is making such a fuss about it? It killed his female. Who's to say it won't happen again, if he could even find another female.

Hey, KIRSwop1....unless you wish to post your pics here when you got the fish ,I think we should close this down. And Jeff If you happen to read this, thank you for everything you have done for me and ALL of your costumers.

Mods, could you pretty please with cheese close this if KRSwop1 does not wish to post here and decides to make a thread in the photo lounge :)
