Rare Black Bass Project

Can I ask why you have an affinity for these three species of bass? I understand you want to do something that is "different". They all look rather similar though, and aside from you and other fish enthusiasts, no one will care or notice what species of black bass they are. I keep a spotted bass, and everyone always says "hey nice largemouth...etc". It happens so often I stopped correcting people.

Additionally, Hybridization would be something I would worry about. These species will most likely hybridize if you are breeding them together. If this is your goal; it's a foolish one.

It seems like a daunting task at least for a private collector to try to house these specific species of black basses, so why not pick some native species around you? If predator fishes are you goal, you have so many to choose from in NJ. If you want to do something different, these aren't the fish I would choose.

There's my 2 cents.

Not trying to start an argument, but you are pretty bold to come in here and call my idea foolish. If it was truly foolish, how come so many people are supporting it? This idea is to establish some lesser collected species in the hobby. You said that i can collect Nj native predators, which are already established in the trade because they can be found in most other states. THE WHOLE GOAL OF MY PLAN IS TO ESTABLISH THESE SPECIES. I dont care if they look the same. I wont keep them in the same pond so they wont hybridize. YOUR idea is foolish. NOT mine.
"Theres my 2 cents"

I simply stated if your goal was to HYBRIDIZE THE FISH than your plan is foolish. I am terribly sorry you misread my comment. I did not mean to offend your plan. Your goal though is to do something "different" though.

Additionally, if my practical and knowledge based ideas are foolish, then eff it! You're a pro right? So why ask a whole forum full of fish keepers for their two cents? Sounds like you know exactly what you're doing, right? Considering you haven't probably seen a live specimen of these fish, and you have overstocked tanks...

So just go for it! Invest some money to house these things properly, and I'll wish you the best. If they die; I can't say I told you so. If they live; you have got some "rare" natives, but does that really meet your goal? Your goal is to establish these species, so I don't see how privately keeping a few bass establishes the species in anything other than your prospective ponds. What are you going to open a business and sell these things, which can't legally be sold? Save some money, maybe pick up a degree in biology, and move to Florida if you are serious about your goals.

I guess that is a total of 4 cents I have given to you, so I will add that you should read my comment thoroughly before implementing a response that lacks grammatical structure, proper wording, and a proper interpretation of my post. I am not for or against your idea. I don't give a darn what you actually do. I was just giving you some advice.

Cheers mate

You called my idea foolish. I thought you meant the whole thing. If you only meant hybridizing, it was a misunderstamding. I will give each species a seperate tank/pond

300 gallons isn't that big, you might be able to get away with a few underwater pond heaters. If you didn't build the pond yet put insulation between the pond and ground. For the winter you can make a cheap plywood struture and line the inside with mylar. What is your target temperature? When is your probation period over?Don't forget people are always going to hate.

Hope you go through with it. I am interested in seeing your progress and results.

Thanks! I hope it goes well!

Florida? Really?

Florida? Really?

Lmao I think he means so he can go to breed them all there. Because its easier to breed this species in warm climates. Heck, we dont even know if you can breed them in any climates other than warm climates but we will see what happens. Im hoping it all works out

Dude Suwannee bass is still subtropical not a cold water fish. NJ waters in the winter get colder than Suwannee River in the winter.
